ACTS FOUNDER’S STORY:
Actively Caring Through Sharing (ACTS) is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit support group for women and men caregivers. It was founded in February 2014 by sisters, Jeanie Harris and Sharon R. Melancon, who were active caregivers for their 95 year old Mother until her passing on February 16, 2016 from complications of Alzheimer’s. Jeanie and Sharon were greatly supported in their care giving efforts by their sister, Vivian Edwards and daughter/niece Kym Harris.
Jeanie and Sharon also served their first cousin affectionately known as “Aunt Lorraine,” as caregivers until her passing on February 28, 2015 at the age of 94 due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease.
ACTS was founded for the purpose of providing encouragement, educational resources, support and a safe place for caregivers to share their “true feelings.” ACTS provides a variety of free educational resources through literature, a lending library and outstanding speakers who address issues and provide solutions relating to caregiving. Some of the topics covered have been:
- Making Home Safe
- Social Security and Medicare
- Caregiving from a Male Perspective
- Getting Your Legal Affairs in Order
- What you Need to Know about Home Care versus Placement
ACTS support group meetings are held every 3rd Saturday of the month via Zoom from 11am-1pm (PST) due to the Corona Virus.
Please contact ACTS at 323-296-2975 or email: acts@actscsg.org for details.
It is our hope that the encouragement, educational resources and support that ACTS provides will continue to benefit an under represented group of people – The Caregiver.
